Family spots 'UFO' flying over Murgon

COULD there be extraterrestrial activity in the skies above Murgon?
About 5.15am last Friday a family reported an unusual light in the sky that appeared to be hovering on the other side of a hill.
After they watched for about two minutes the object hovered closer towards them as it appeared to get slightly larger before it disappeared behind clouds.
Burnett Flyers president Ralph Percy said there were no planes in the sky at the time of the sighting.
But Mr Percy, who has a masters in science and worked on a number of space projects in the US, said it was unlikely they had spotted a Unidentified Flying Object (UFO).
"At that time of the morning it was most likely a weather balloon," Mr Percy said.
"More often than not most reports of UFO sightings are people seeing weather balloons as they fly at about 20,000ft.
"There are a lot of man-made events which people mistake as UFOs."
Mr Percy said flashes in the night sky were often mistaken for UFOs, but said it could also be aerial topographic mapping aircraft used by Google Earth which created a fly over sequence to take a strip of photos.
He said another explanation, especially above Murgon, could be drones flying out from the Toogoolawah Airport.
"We are well in the range to see the drones coming from Toogoolawah," he said.
