The UFO RB-47 Encounter: A Night of Mystery


 


Many consider this incident one of the two most compelling cases in UFO history. An exemplary case I would say, well documented in government records, seen by the flight crew, tracked by sophisticated on-board electronics and detected by ground radar. The event lasted almost an hour and a half.

The RB-47 was a four-engine bomber equipped with electronic countermeasures and carried six experienced officers. Its mission was to detect enemy radar and this was a training mission before being deployed to Germany. Equipped with the most sophisticated electronic intelligence (ELINT) equipment then available to the US Air Force, the RB-47 could handle anything except what was about to happen. The mission began at Forbes AFB in Topeka, Kansas. It was supposed to fly south through Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, turn east and exit over the Gulf of Mexico, then turn north toward Gulfport, Mississippi, and then west near Meridian, Mississippi, and back to Ft.
