Ciao a tutti! Anche quest'anno Oliviero Mannucci e Alessandro Mazzei, parteciperanno a SMIAF, ovvero San Marino International Arts Festivals. I due esperti astrofili metteranno a disposizione i loro telescopi, li troverete il giorno 2 Agosto, giorno d'inaugurazione del festival, vicino alla pista di pattinaggio. Il 3 e 4 Agosto invece saranno vicino alla funivia. Partecipate numerosi!

Raccolgo un suggerimento di un nostro amico del blog e lancio questo ventiquattresimo “dibattito bUFO”. Il tema è proprio quello indicatomi: “Se effettivamente la Terra fosse visitata da extraterrestri e i governi del mondo fossero a conoscenza del fenomeno, riterresti giusto tenere la popolazione all’oscuro?” Perché sì? Perché no? A voi la scelta e i commenti. Per dare uno spunto di lancio al dibattito e anche a mo’ di curiosità, aggiungo un articolo di 12 anni fa del mio collega Franco Foresta Martin, giornalista scientifico del Corriere della Sera: fu pubblicato dal nostro sito on line e parlava di misteriosi segnali radio captati in Australia.
ROMA – Gli extraterrestri stanno tentando di mettersi in contatto con la Terra? A giurarlo è la corrispondente dall’Australia della «Radio Suisse Romande» che ha lanciato in esclusiva, a più riprese, la notizia dell’avvenuto contatto cosmico per mezzo del radiotelescopio australiano di Parkes, uno dei più grandi e sensibili del mondo. La fonte primaria della notizia sarebbe di tutto rispetto: un anonimo astronomo del radiotelescopio Parkes, il quale, contravvenendo alla consegna del silenzio del suo gruppo, avrebbe lasciato trapelare la voce che, da una decina di giorni, la grande antenna da 64 metri sta ricevendo segnali non naturali. «Segnali radio di origine naturale provenienti dallo spazio vengono captati dal radiotelescopio tutti i giorni e tutte le ore – riferisce Diane Care, la corrispondente australiana della radio svizzera -. Ma questo è completamente differente dagli altri. Per il momento non c’è alcun meccanismo di tipo naturale per spiegare questo segnale che ha tutte le probabilità di essere inviato da una lontana civiltà extraterrestre». Da parte sua, l’ufficio stampa dell’osservatorio di Parkes smentisce. Ma la Care ribatte: «Sono stata personalmente dentro l’Osservatorio e ho visto e sentito cose straordinarie, tanto da doversi dare i pizzicotti per essere certa di non sognare».

NASA’s (un)Scientific Approach to UFO Study
NASA has been notoriously mum about UFO research, and that which has
been leaked has been subject to intense speculation, debate and often
disregarded as trivial. The question to be asked is what does NASA say
about how they approach UFO study. In this way, one can see without
distraction as to whether or not NASA is flowing with fair UFO
investigation.
Reading the title What about UFOs? the reader assumes a fair analysis will be provided. However, this post on NASA’s website offers a blatantly biased, one-sided discussion.
“That whole subject is really irrelevant to our own human quest to travel to space.” The author of the post suggests that the “signal to noise” ratio is a clear example of why we should not be wasting time with such studies. “There is an expression that engineers use: “signal to noise ratio.” It refers to the difficulty of getting the real signal, say a voice over the telephone, to stand out and be heard above all the noise and clutter that is also on the line. On the subject of UFOs the signal to noise ratio is so abysmal, that it does no good to listen.”
Bearing in mind that this is the first information they offer under the FAQ, it is safe to say the purity of scientific investigation is tarnished when it comes to UFO study. It reeks of a blinkered stench, aiming to make the reader’s mind up without providing sufficient information for the whole sphere of this sensitive subject. The post does, however, reveal why the writer is so dogmatic, sharing that in terms of our own advancement as human beings, no value is offered even if UFOs are real; “If we humans are going to figure out how to build space vehicles, then WE have to build our own space vehicles. It doesn’t matter if it has or has not been done by someone else.”
But what about bridging the communication gap so that if there are advanced races – or even just other alien races – in the universe, we can see how building space vehicles has been done and how we may do it for ourselves?
“No branch of the United States Government is currently involved with or responsible for investigations into the possibility of alien life on other planets or for investigating Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO’s). The U.S. Air Force (USAF) and NASA have had intermittent, independent investigations of the possibility of alien life on other planets; however, none of these has produced factual evidence that life exists on other planets, nor that UFO’s are related to aliens. “
Interestingly enough, the subject of UFO investigation has been branded as mere hearsay and therefore merits no time, energy or resources. There are however, currently 701 cases of reported UFOs that remain unidentified. Astronauts who are privy to Unidentified Flying Objects receive a fast explanation for these from scientists back at the office. The scientist holds superior knowledge in this field, and therefore they should know best. In every instance of such a report, NASA determines the observations could not be termed “abnormal” in the space environment. Considering how vast this universe is and how small a zone we are aware of, and then yes, seeing unexplained phenomena in space is not “abnormal.”
If the unbending idea remains in our minds that it is a ridiculous notion to believe UFOs exist, it inhibits further advancement within us as human beings. Why is it such a ridiculous idea? And why is it not generally accepted to investigate the idea of UFOs with an open, unbiased, inquiring and yes, scientific, mindset? It seems only once we go into the subject clear minded can we see with reputable vision. Until that time, the truth about a subject will elude the investigator.

UFO: White Alien sighted in Maine darting
A witness has reported sighting an alien in Southwest Harbor, Maine, US, 27 July, 2013 at 5:30 PM. This report has been obtained from a testimony included in the database of Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), published on 27 July, 2013.
The
witness begins the report by describing how he was able to sight
multiple aliens on different dates, when he was driving. He then
describes the height of the white being he saw on the day of the
incident.
“I saw a slightly blurred-out looking white being, maybe 4-5 feet in height.”
The
witness then tells us that the sighting lasted for only a few seconds.
He also tells us that many of his friends have also sighted a white
being while driving on the same road, on different occasions.
The
witness further tells us that there was a sulfurous smell in the air,
when he sighted the being. He then describes the movement of the being
when he sighted it. He also talks about his reaction to the sighting.
“It
quickly darted around the bend, and I lost sight of it. No visible
features, other than a white human-like shape. For one reason or
another, I thought nothing of it. I simply went on walking in the same
direction, but did not come across it again.”
The witness then talks about the UFO sighting and describes seeing an object which looked like a NASA space shuttle.
“I
was taking a walk only metres away from the bottom of my driveway when I
noticed a strange sulfurous smell in the air. I witnessed a strange
plane fly overhead, which is strange in our area. It looked almost like a
NASA Space Shuttle in plane-form.”
The witness describes the colour of the object. He also talks about the speed of the object
“It had an orange stripe on the back and nose, and the rest was white. It was moving at a relatively normal speed.”
The
witness further tells us that he observed another UFO, a metallic
spherical object and tells us how it disappeared in to the woods.

B., guardando fuori dalla finestra di casa, scorge questo oggetto che fluttua nell’aria. E’ grigio, se ne sta immobile come se galleggiasse per qualche minuto. Poi schizza via ad una velocità incredibile, senza emettere alcun rumore o suono particolare ma emettendo una luce gialla. L. B. è scioccato: “Sono rimasto senza parole, ho paura”. Dopo aver segnalato la cosa alla redazione di Viterbonews24, il cittadino di Monterosi si rivolge anche agli esperti del Cisu. Che hanno acquisito le foto scattate quel giorno dal telefonino e hanno ascoltato anche la testimonianza diretta di L. B.
Adesso è arrivata questa risposta. Che conferma quanto misterioso sia questo avvistamento: le foto non sono state modificate (e nessuno dubitava), e l’oggetto ripreso non assomiglia neanche lontanamente a nessun tipo di aereo o velivolo in generale prodotto da tecnologia umana. Insomma, un vero e proprio Ovni, oggetto volante non identificato. E proprio qui, sui cieli della Tuscia.

There's nothing like a good UFO video to tingle your senses : Is it real, a hoax, something easy or difficult to explain?
This incident includes some information issues, where certain facts -- simple things, like the actual date and time of the sighting -- appear questionable.
A cigar-shaped unidentified object was seen hovering, rotating and changing colors above Denton, Manchester, in the U.K., reports the International Business Times.

"[The] object was just visible to the naked eye [and] was in the sky for around 40 minutes before raising so high that it could not be seen at all," wrote the eyewitness, identified only as omex2005, who indicated the video was uploaded on July 9, 2011.
"UFO means unidentified flying object, so I'm not saying it was little green men, but still ... interesting to watch. The camera is so shaky because it was at full zoom, and knowing how high it appeared in the sky (higher than planes) I'm guessing its size was massive."
As noted, the original video was "uplodaded on July 9, 2011." And here's where the confusion sets in.
A UFO Sightings Daily account says the UFO was seen in the sky "on July 19, 2013." And this same story includes the original eyewitness statement that clearly refers to a "huge UFO, cigar-shaped metallic object caught on camera in Denton, Manchester U.K. 2011." Well, which is it? Was this thing seen and videotaped in 2011 or 2013? You can't have it both ways -- within the same story!
The other odd thing about this video is that some sites state the UFO was captured on video at 9:05 p.m. Does the bright blue sky give the impression this was a nighttime sighting?
Those questions aside, Huffington Post reached out to Marc Dantonio, chief photo and video analyst for the Mutual UFO Organization, aka MUFON.
"I believe it to be a solar balloon. It is of the silver mylar type and everything about its motion, shape and color says that it's a mylar solar balloon, to me," Dantonio told HuffPost in an email.
"The rotation and speed is also consistent with that, and it seems pretty straightforward," Dantonio said.

This horse was found this way by its owner in the town of Fernández, Santiago del Estero.
The peculiarity of the case is that the animal was aged, so it is presumed he died in those days, then late the next morning they discovered a sharp cut in the eye area and one in the anus area.
