Spazio: ultima frontiera.

Antarctica Invaded by Extraterrestrials
Antarctica has been invaded by extraterrestrials. Researchers at the South Pole have discovered an assortment of neutrinos from outer space that might help explain the beginning of the universe. The team is from the IceCube telescope laboratory in Antarctica and plan on revealing their findings in the nature journal Science very soon
Specialists believe that 28 intergalactic subatomic elements, which were implanted in a block of Antarctic polar ice, came from outside the Solar System. In fact it is likely that most of the elements were even from outside the Milky Way. They reported they had been doing research over a period of two years and had come across the 28 neutrinos. However, it is also believed that some of the elements might have come from Earth’s own galaxy.
Over 5,000 sensors had been lowered and frozen into the ice, in order to look for blue light flashes that would be given off by the torrents of rubble produced by a neutrino. Antarctica was just waiting for such research, it seemed, stated one of the team members.
Neutrinos are basically ghostly particles which intermingle hardly ever with the rest of the cosmos. The combination reactions that control the sun give off an overflow of neutrinos, but almost every single one of them go unobserved. Each second, there are trillions of them passing through the bodies of every individual on Earth.
By having found these particles, the researchers believe that they might be able to gleam new understanding out of the workings of pulsars, black holes and many other marvels out in space which produce the subatomic units.
The equipment the team is using is able to distinguish between neutrinos that are from beyond the Solar System compared to those which may have come from the Sun or Earth’s own atmosphere. The extraterrestrial neutrinos screeched through the emptiness at the speed of light before crashing into the Earth’s slush in Antarctica.
The team explained that neutrino observations are a unique investigation around the universe’s highest energy occurrence. They have the ability to escape from thick astrophysical locations in which photons cannot and are clear-cut tracers of cosmic ray speed.
When nuclei and protons are accelerated, they interact with both background light and gas that is near the source which produces subatomic particles. These entities, such as charged kaons and pions then proceed to decay, causing neutrinos to be emitted.
The team said that a discovery such as this one in Antarctica has been in the making for over 25 years. This finding is only the second one of interstellar neutrinos done by researchers. Back in 1987, particles came from a supernova and made it to the Earth. They were able to be observed by scientists. However, since that time, examiners had been searching for another cause of the subatomic particles which was not produced by the Sun or Earth.
One member of the research team stated that it was satisfying to finally be able to see what they had been trying to find. This is the beginning of a new age of astronomy. These little extraterrestrials have taken Antarctica by storm.
