Spazio: ultima frontiera.

Earth From The Saturn System — NASA Releases New Image Of The Earth As Seen From Saturn
Unofficial version of the Cassini spacecraft’s July 19 portrait of Saturn and Earth — created from raw imagery released by NASA. The Cassini imaging team is currently working on the ‘official’ version.

As we reported previously, this is the first time that natural-color images of the Earth as seen from the Saturn system have been taken — as well as being the first time that Cassini’s highest-resolution camera was used to photograph the Earth and the Moon.
Just as NASA researchers had predicted — in the new image the Earth appears as nothing but a pale blue dot. It’ll be interesting to see how the Earth appears once NASA finishes stitching their images and releases the finished mosaic — current expectations are that that’ll be in a few weeks.
As was reported then: “While (the) Earth will be only about a pixel in size from Cassini’s vantage point 898 million away, the team is looking forward to giving the world a chance to see what their home looks like from Saturn,” said Linda Spilker, Cassini project scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
