On February 6, 2013 scientists announced that recent analysis of data from the Kepler Space Telescope shows that about 6% of red dwarf stars have rocky planets in their habitable zone.
Red dwarfs are the most common type of star. There are about 75 billion in our Milky Way Galaxy. So that equates to 4.5 billion Earth-like planets. And that's only the red dwarfs. There are also habitable planets orbiting yellow-dwarf stars such as our sun.
